Great I Am

To some people, songs may just be songs. Songs may be just lyrics or a rhythm or a beat. Even to me, some songs are just songs and nothing more. New Life Worship’s, “Great I Am” floods back memories – hard ones to think about, and great ones to dwell on.
I sang this song on the last night with our entire group in NMB. Almost all of us sang it a short two weeks later, after the memorial service of our group member, Sean.
“The mountains shake before Him
The demons run and flee
At the mention of the name
King of Majesty
There is no power in hell
Or any who can stand
Before the power and the presence of the Great I am”

Just recently have I started listening to this song again since that fateful day in August. Although it still brings me to tears, I know it’s not because it’s “just a song.” It’s because these lyrics are significant, they are reminders that the great name of Jesus changes lives. These words are reminders that hell is no test for my God. That Sean is in the very presence of God, worshiping and praising His name – as he did here on earth.
The floods of emotions that come along with this song indicate not only my fragility, but my hope. My belief that mountains shake in God’s presence, that he is, in fact, the King of Majesty.

Today, my heart aches to be back with my family in South Carolina.
