I have but one candle of life to burn, and would rather burn it out in a land filled with darkness than a land flooded with light
-John K. Falconer
John Falconer was a pastor of a number of churches, all while having a strong emphasis toward evangelism.
Many people think they must choose “Paycheck vs. Passion,” while Dan Miller, a writer for the Christian living magazine Relevant, says otherwise. He advises, “Discover your passion. Do work that blends that passion and gives you significant income. Be responsible, pay your bills and have money left over. Make a difference and change the world.”
This is exactly where I get hung up. So then what’s my passion? What kind of significant paycheck are we talking about here? It seems like a nomad is my first option – living life, sharing the gospel, and traveling – as long as I stick with John Falconer’s wise words over my head.
I’m not saying I’m going to just walk the streets or be bound to a life of couch-hopping, but that seems a tad more exciting than school. All the while, I am here in school, I am here with my candle of life ina place filled with darkness. Better use this time wisely.
And brightly.
